Diabetic Care or Cure? Often the most controversial subject whirling around unanswered in the Medical field. Let us discuss what is Diabetes and how Homoeopathy can shed  light on it so that we get to know later  that whether care or cure, which is the best term to suffix Diabetes.

It is not a disease of Pancreas alone rather it is a syndrome characterized by persistent increase of glucose in blood. If untreated can later on lead to  acute and chronic complications affecting whole body and mind. Diabetes classified into  Type 1 Diabetes, Type 2 Diabetes, Gestational Diabetes and others such as 1.5 Diabetes.  Disturbance in normal balance in the  factors regulating Carbohydrate mechanism can lead to Diabetes. In majority of cases it is the inability to store sugar as glycogen hence it increases and absorbed in renal tubules in kidney. After explaining theories over theories now it says, diabetes is not due to insufficient amount of Insulin secreted by Islets of Langerhans but it is the antagonistic action of Pancreas, Pituitary, Thyroid and Adrenal glands together that leads to Diabetic syndrome. An anti Insulin factor secretion is also to be considered. Hence we should have a system of medicine  which acts on whole organism so that it creates a homo stasis within the body. Homeopathy is a  holistic system where it has action on the whole organism rather than action only on specific single organ.

SYMPTOMS: Increased thirst, hunger, urination. Others symptoms are fatigue, numbness and burning sensation, weight loss, slow healing wounds, dark skin patches, blurred vision according to the stage of disease.

It’s a derangement of sugar “HOMEOSTASIS” and also It’s an “INBORN ERROR” of sugar metabolism. The enzymatic defect that limit functional capacity of Insulin and one or more missed link in chain of complex mechanism, which convert sugar into energy and heat.

Foremost cause is ‘Hereditary’ then stress, ethnic differences, Indiscretions in diet, Pregnancy, Obesity, Pancreatic, Extra Pancreatic, Pituitary, Adrenal, Dopamine, GIT, Other medication induced etc. Let us discuss the cause which is important for patient as well as for Homoeopathic treatment.

  1. A) Hereditary (INBORN ERROR):

It’s one of the  basic cause of Diabetes and it is a genetic defect with presence or absence of accessory factors such as age, various races and ethnic groups, error in diet, stress etc. The Non-Diabetics may act  as a carrier to the next generation; as we all know grandparent’s gene which is recessive in their children gets expressed in their grand children (Atavism). In every cell there is a specific gene for every specific enzyme. When gene is altered its corresponding enzyme get altered. Hormones such as Insulin and glucagon increases or decreases with altered enzymatic reaction ie; a genetically defective gene causes an enzymatic  malfunction which may lead to Diabetes.

Role of Homoeopathy :

Let’s read the above passage in reverse

altered Hormones <- altered Enzyme <- altered “Gene”.

Hence the basic problem is in the gene. Let’s discuss how a gene gets altered? There should be some strong powerful internal or external agents to cause a change in the gene. Hereditary disease means, there should be a single person who started the chain to begin with. For eg:  the then considered first couple ‘Adam and Hawwa’ should have started the chain. It is illogical; because if so, the entire descendants should get affected by that. So some other cause has changed the genetic pattern at some stage. Our genetic code gets fixed during time of conception and it gets influenced either; before (spermatogenesis period),during and after conception (gestational period).

These stages can gets influenced

(a) Externally by exposing to powerful physical noxious agents Eg: spraying of Endosulphan causing genetic defects.

(b) Internally by mental stress. Eg: Here in the case of Diabetes, as it is more of a life style disease, a strong mental stress plays a major role – stress induced Diabetes.

Gene selection is a random selection process so if creating a positive ambiance ie; if you are able to live a stress free life your descendants will remain healthy. In regard with you, even though if you have a genetic pre-disposition to get a familial disease, diseases wont get affected if you can cope up with your stress more effectively. Homoeopathy take cares you at any stage of life. Hence Diabetes can be cared or cured in this generation or even can prevent passing on the disease to the next generation with suitable Homoeopathic medicine.Various races and ethnic groups demonstrates differences in glucose metabolism, again supports importance of hereditary factor. These aspect of Diabetes are especially important for a multi-ethnic country such as India. “Heredity is the gun and environment is the trigger”.

  1. B) Stress

Stress result in derangement of HOMEOSTASIS. Recurrent and persistent physical and mental stress in family and at work place slowly leads to pancreatic exhaustion; as above condition causes a sharp rise (spike) in blood glucose level causing demanding situation on pancreas which results in pancreatic exhaustion in due course of time. The same happens in a person who has excessive consumption of carbohydrate or indiscriminate consumption of sugar and glucose to get instant energy.  Stress can be managed successfully and can create homeostasis by ourselves within our body, as nature has given us inborn power to heal ourselves. The stress which is not controlled properly can lead to mental and physical diseases including diabetes which require medical attention, hence a system which gives importance to  the cause can give you a better results that is Homoeopathy.

Homoeopathic therapeutics in Diabetes and it’s prognosis:

Diabetes can be dealt beautifully through Homoeopathy by adopting different strategies according to the cause and particular symptoms experienced by the patient. Prognosis depends on so many factors like age of the patient, duration of the illness, concurrent diseases and its medication, past history of the patient and his family, present state of health, his sensitivity, recent or past physical or  mental stress and strain in the family and at his workplace. If more causes present, diabetes will be intensified so it become a complex disease which  will be difficult to treat, however can be cared well. Homoeopathy has lot of  medicines for Diabetic patients selected purely on totality of symptoms particular to the individual. Hence whether your condition can be suffixed with cared or cured depends on you and your Homoeopathic Doctor after thorough assessment only. Hence don’t let hope to go once you get diagnosed that you have diabetes. In a 5 and half year Indian Medical education system, Homeopathy is the only system where  psychology is a subject in the first year curriculum, as psychological approach in  the patient care goes a long way in mitigating many diseases including Diabetic syndrome. And also Diet and Exercise is an inseparable part in the treatment. Each Homoeopathic medicine is proved on Healthy human beings so that it is devoid of side effects and is safe to use as it is extracted from nature. Proper selection and administration of constitutional Homeopathic medicine after case taking, analysis and repretorisation is very effective in Diabetes.

In a nutshell, we can say Diabetes is a slow progressive disease where you don’t have to  panic to do any emergency treatment,  when initially get diagnosed. A Homoeopathic doctor can better treat diabetes if you are going as fresh case rather than who is already under other mode of medication. Less the duration and multi system involvement more the chance of cure, and the condition which cannot be cured can be endured with hope of minimizing complications and symptomatic relief. Be close with nature and create homeostasis within the body through Homeopathy !

Developmental Disorders in Children

Developmental disorders in Children and its general & Homeopathic Management

When a baby is born the first question asked by everyone is whether the baby looks like father, mother or grandparents?? Here we can see the importance of surpassing of Gene to the new born. Hence, we can perceive disorders also can pass on to next generation. Let’s start the prevention from that moment itself to have a healthy baby. Influencing Persons are Father (during spermatogenesis period), during conception, Mother (during whole 9moths of gestational period). Sex is determined by father & Hereditary factors such as Physiological and Psychological traits are fixed. Parents’ unfavourable conditions can stunt their development. Greater development is happening during this period than any other time in a life period. Attitude towards baby ie; even the thought of abortion influences baby. Negative ambience creates havoc in mother’s homeostasis. Hence its utmost important to have a happy family to have a happy child.

Hazards in babyhood and its management

Excessive crying- Can later act as causative factor for gastro intestinal disturbances, regurgitation of food, night waking, general nervous tension, psychological insecurity, affects relationship with parents which at last ends up affecting in development of personality. Can minimise the severity by having certain change of response pattern in parents For e.g. While admitting kids in day cares, better to stay with them the initial 3 or 5 days; hence can lessen the feel of sudden panic in midst of strangers.

Illness – If simple fever make them take rest at home as abstinence from school is good for them as well as other kids. Initially treat them with home remedies like panikurkila water etc. If not controlled or severe, give them Homeopathic drugs which is absolutely free of side effects. Even recurrence can be prevented with Homeopathic Medicines. Many day cares kids are not getting washed in genital areas after micturition or flush toilet after each kid; telling excuses such as it is needed only after defecation or its difficult to do for every kid. In fact, one of the prime cause for fever is urinary tract infection. So a careful hygiene in and around can prevent illness.

Accidents – Can be prevented by removing dangerous substances from reachable limit or by giving importance even to minute things such as keeping bed cover under arms while covering during sleeping as otherwise there is a chance of obstruction of nose by falling bed cover over nose, when baby change position of hands while turning around in bed.

Mal nutrition – can lead to kwashiorkor and marasmus. Malnutrition affects brain as first 2 years are considered to be the  critical period in growth of brain cells hence make sure baby is well nourished.

Obesity –  Advertisement babies indirectly instilled an Eager to have chubby babies ; such misconception leads to over feeding  later pave way to obese kids. And also Bottle fed babies are over fed than breast fed babies. Number of fat cells of body are established in early life upto 3 years. If over fed they will have obesity problem in rest years of life leading a proneness to life style style diseases obesity, heart disease, diabetes etc.

Physical habits – Sleeping, Eating, Defeacation

Sleeping – Initially baby may require every 3 hour feeding so there won’t be continuous sleep as months pass on, baby starts to sleep for long hours such as 10 to 15 hours. Try to avoid bedroom lamp as happy hormones such as melatonin and serotonin secretes in pitch darkness only. Instead of lamp give them secure feeling of your presence.

Eating –Tradition trailed by your fore fathers or living according to the habitat in that particular area helps us to have healthy habits many a times. Nowadays  all are giving exclusive milk in the first 6 months. Personally, I feel baby should get water along with breast milk till 6 months and continued also. Rationale: Does our thirst goes with drinking milk instead of water? 6 months can be considered as a waiting time for eruption of teeth and to get intestine capable of digesting adult food. Water can be digested within minutes hence please give your kid sometimes water too. Better not to change per changing theories in such basic needs. After 6 months, one can start weaning foods to babies such as raagi or kaya podi in Indian habitat. Combination of rice, dhal and ghee is the best as it contains required amount of CHO, Protein and Fat. Need to introduce cows milk only after stopping breast feed as protein formula differs in both and can cause reaction if given simultaneously. Many a times kids started skin complaints or respiratory complaints after Cows milk  so it can be continued only to those who didn’t showed reaction. Almost same protein gets from green dhal; substitute it with that.

Around 1 year can slowly start introducing what and all adults are having. Better to avoid junk foods. After one year don’t rely too much on breast feed as they require solid food for their proper development.

Elimination – It takes 4 year +/- 1 or 2 years to complete the control over it. According to famour Psychologist Sigmaund Freud Over domination by care takers in this stage can lead to obsessive compulsive disorder in adult life. Around 2 months the intestine is slowly get converting to adult type hence there will be constipation.  Usually says motion gets passed in third day naturally. However Make sure gas is burped out after every feed otherwise baby will torment with such case, make  it remove by some traditional method or can be sort to Homeopathic medication which is very safe for kids.

Developmental delay – Developmental delay should be differentiated from developmental disability  such as  Downs syndrome.

Motor Development delay – It is delay in achieving milestones such as closing fontanelles, rolling, sitting, standing, stepping, speech around the age defined for that. Again, all these depends on the genetic factor. Please don’t compare with other kid and also stop asking others why your kid not yet started walking talking? You are asking for first time however they are fed of answering for many! Parents should observe their kids by themselves and also never to forget to compare how parents were in childhood. Still if feeling too much dely then only need to go for Psychological assessment or consult a doctor if necessary. Homeopathy has good medicines to achieve milestones if any development delay.

Sometimes over pressure or negligence can also lead to delay in motor development. Giving them proper oil  massage during bath and giving them proper training such as keeping favourite toy in far distance can promote walking.

Speech delay –  normally first months cooing, babbling, gestures,

3rd month – pleasure, anger, fear can be comprehended.

1st year- one word

1.8 months- words must be reinforced along with gestures.

2 year – two words

2.6 year- simple command should be comprehended. Eg: give me kitty

3 year – 3 words with grammer

Babies have not yet learned to control emotions. hence It’s easy for us to know by their facial expression.  Babies comprehend the meaning of what others says to them more readily than they can put to their own thoughts to words. So be careful about what you are saying. Half they learn from their IQ and rest half from how others stimulate or encourage baby.

Always keep time to talk with babies and play with babies. Allow them to talk instead of helping before they complete sentence or finish task. Avoid encouraging their talk as cute as it may lead to mispronunciation in adult life.

Emotional hazard

Unresolved emotions can lead to stress. Yes! They too have stress however Can easily resolve it by knowing what they required in each stage. For eg:

3 month- stops crying when picked up.

6 month – enjoy playing hence play with them

9 month – stiffens body when seeing strangers hence give them emotional support in midst of strangers

1 year-year more dependent – give them your time and attention

2year – shows temper tantrum but never entertain

3year – less ego centric so teach them value of sharing.

4 year – more affection so give back your affection.

5 year – reasoning already achieved so reason out them clearly.

Emotional factor depends on inborn nature, environment, illness, stress. They too have emotions just like us; happiness, fear, jealousy, love, sadness, anger, excitement but don’t know to control as they are still in ‘ID” stage according to Famous Psychologist Sigmond freud. Mostly we can solve problems by giving appreciation, love, affection, more bondage and positive ambience . If not getting corrected find out root cause and correct it. Even if not changing consult a psychologist or a Homeopathic doctor if medicinal intervention needed.

Social hazard – Lack of opportunity and motivation from parents and environment can lead to introversion. Too many care takers or changing care takers also a factor. 6 week to 6 months are the time for attitude formation . 40 % people who are shy is carry over from babyhood. Shyness can later leads to loneliness self-consciousness, unfavourable social emotions, hostile, no good social $ personal development.

Play hazard – too much dependency on toys and television effects emotional hazards. Hence role model play, group play is very important.

Hazards in understanding-  It’s easy and acceptable way  to make get things done by giving rewards to them  however it may lead to persistent food likes and dislikes. Chances are there they learn to associate sweet with reward ie toffee as state of life. Solve it by changing rewards from toffee to toys and so on according to situation.

Hazards in morality- If they discover they get more attention when they do things to annoy they keep on doing 3 d’s – 3 d’s  are dawdling, defience, disobediances. Never entertain and instead boost their good nature.

Relationship hazard– Any unfavourable ambience  can affect them emotionally very badly even it can lead to behavioural disorders. e.g. parents fight.

Hazards in personality development – changed attitude of family members or loving persons can lead to emotional disturbances. Self-concept is a mirror image of what people in their lives think of them. As relationship deteriorates during 2 year, if not handled tactfully they can resort to as aggressive, resentful, withdrawn, etc. Identity formation finishes in pubertal age, if parents could provide a positive ambience in all aspects can makes them a good individual in the society and can far more abolish fights in their marital life as they already achieved a mind to reason out and care in its pure form. Always reason out and clear whatever doubt they have.

By the age of 4 or babyhood ends,

Babies should be able to :

Learn to talk, walk with physical stability

Take solid food, chew properly

Motion control completed

Useful; vocabulary with correct pronounciation

Meaning of simple statement and command

Wear dress with button

Simple concept of relatives and should be able to distinguish cartoon is not a reality.

Concept of right and wrong in relation with people outside. Make them understand never scare them.

Difficult task is learning to relate emotionally with parents and others. Babyish dependency is to meet their emotional needs and in childhood, he/she must learn to give and receive affection. More Outside bond than self – bond.

Laryngitis is when your voice box or vocal cords become inflamed from overuse, irritation, or infection. The two main types of this condition are chronic (long-term) and acute (short-term) laryngitis.

A variety of conditions can cause the inflammation that results in laryngitis. These include viral infections, environmental factors, and in rare cases, bacterial infections.

Acute laryngitis is a temporary condition caused by an underlying infection or overuse. Treating the underlying condition will cause the laryngitis to go away. On the other hand, chronic laryngitis results from long-term exposure to irritants. This type of laryngitis tends to be more severe and have effects that last longer.

The causes of acute laryngitis include:

  • viral infections
  • straining vocal cords by talking or yelling more than normal
  • bacterial infections (rare)

The causes of chronic laryngitis include:

  • frequent exposure to harmful chemicals or allergens
  • acid reflux
  • frequent sinus infections
  • smoking or being around smokers
  • overusing your voice
  • low-grade yeast infections caused by frequent use of an asthma inhaler

Other reasons behind persistent hoarseness and sore throat could be cancer, paralysis of the vocal cords, or changes in vocal cord shape that result from getting older.

The most common symptoms of laryngitis include:

  • weakened voice
  • loss of voice
  • hoarse, dry throat
  • constant tickling or minor throat irritation
  • dry cough

In infants and small children, certain symptoms indicate a form of bacterial laryngitis called croup. Croup, which is inflammation of the throat, can lead to the development of epiglottitis. Epiglottitis occurs when tissue swells to the point that it begins to close the windpipe. This condition can be fatal if not treated quickly. Seek immediate medical treatment if your child has:

  • trouble swallowing
  • problems breathing
  • extra saliva
  • noisy, high-pitched sounds when breathing in
  • a fever over 103°F
  • a barking cough

Laryngitis affects your vocal cords and voice box. Your doctor will often start with a visual diagnosis. Your doctor will use a special mirror to view your vocal cords, or they’ll perform a laryngoscopy to magnify the voice box for easy viewing. During a laryngoscopy, your doctor will stick a thin flexible tube with a microscopic camera through your mouth or nose. Your doctor will look for the following signs of laryngitis:

  • irritation
  • redness
  • lesions on the voice box
  • widespread swelling, which is a sign of environmental factors causing laryngitis
  • vocal cord swelling only, which is a sign that you’re overusing your vocal cords

If your doctor notices a lesion or other suspicious mass, they may order a biopsy to rule out throat cancer. During a biopsy, your doctor will remove a small piece of tissue so it can be examined in a lab.

PCOD is a problem in which a woman’s hormones are out of balance. It can cause problems with your periods and make it difficult to get pregnant. PCOS also may cause unwanted changes in the way you look. If it isn’t treated, over time it can lead to serious health problems, such as diabetes and heartdisease.

Most women with PCOS grow many small cyst on their ovaries. That is why it is called polycystic ovary syndrome. The cysts are not harmful but lead to hormone imbalances.

Early diagnosis and treatment can help control the symptoms and prevent long-term problems.

Hormones are chemical messengers that trigger many different processes, including growth and energy production. Often, the job of one hormone is to signal the release of another hormone.

For reasons that are not well understood, in PCOS the hormones get out of balance. One hormone change triggers another, which changes another. For example:

  • The sex hormones get out of balance. Normally, the ovaries make a tiny amount of male se hormones (androgens). In PCOS, they start making slightly more androgens. This may cause you to stopovulating, get acne, and grow extra facial and body hair.
  • The body may have a problem using insulin, called insulin resistance When the body doesn’t use insulin well, blood sugar levels go up. lsr leveOver time, this increases your chance of getting diabetes.

The cause of PCOS is not fully understood, but genetics may be a factor. PCOS seems to run in families, so your chance of having it is higher if other women in your family have it or have irrgular periods or  diabetes. PCOS can be passed down from either your mother’s or father’s side.

Symptoms tend to be mild at first. You may have only a few symptoms or a lot of them. The most common symptoms are:

  • acne.
  • weight gain and trouble loosing weight
  • Extra hair on the face and body. Often women get thicker and darker facial hair and more hair on the chest, belly, and back.
  • Thinning hair on the scalp.
  • irregular periods Often women with PCOS have fewer than nine periods a year. Some women have no periods. Others have very heavy bleeding.
  • Fertility problems. Many women who have PCOS have troublegetting pregnant (infetility)
To diagnose PCOS, the doctor will:

    • Ask questions about your past health, symptoms, and menstrual cycles.
    • Do a physical exam to look for signs of PCOS, such as extra body hair and high blood pressure .The doctor will also check your height and weight to see if you have a healthy body mass index.
    • Do a number of lab tests to check your blood sugar ,insulin, and other hormone levels. Hormone tests can help rule out thyroid or other gland problems that could cause similar symptoms.

You may also have a pelvic ultrasound to look for cysts on your ovaries. Your doctor may be able to tell you that you have PCOS without an ultrasound, but this test will help him or her rule out other problems.

Regula excercise, healthy foods, and weight contarerol the key treatments for PCOS. Treatment can reduce unpleasant symptoms and help prevent long-term health problems.

  • .
    • Try to fit in moderate activity and/or vigorous activity often. Walking is a great excercise that most people can do.
    • Eat heart-healthy foods. This includes lots of vegetables, fruits, nuts, beans, and whole grains. It limits foods that are high in saturated fat, such as meats, cheeses, and fried foods.
    • Most women who have PCOS can benefit from losing weight. Even losing 10 lb (4.5 kg) may help get your hormones in balance and regulate your menstrual cycle.
    • If you smoke, consider quitting. Women who smoke have higher androgen levels that may contribute to PCOS symptoms.

It can be hard to deal with having PCOS. If you are feeling sad or depressed, it may help to talk to a counselor or to other women who have PCOS.

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a common, chronic and long-lasting disorder in which a person has uncontrollable, reoccurring thoughts (obsessions) and behaviors (compulsions) that he or she feels the urge to repeat over and over.

Signs and Symptoms

People with OCD may have symptoms of obsessions, compulsions, or both. These symptoms can interfere with all aspects of life, such as work, school, and personal relationships.

Obsessions are repeated thoughts, urges, or mental images that cause anxiety. Common symptoms include:

  • Fear of germs or contamination
  • Unwanted forbidden or taboo thoughts involving sex, religion, and harm
  • Aggressive thoughts towards others or self
  • Having things symmetrical or in a perfect order

Compulsions are repetitive behaviors that a person with OCD feels the urge to do in response to an obsessive thought. Common compulsions include:

  • Excessive cleaning and/or handwashing
  • Ordering and arranging things in a particular, precise way
  • Repeatedly checking on things, such as repeatedly checking to see if the door is locked or that the oven is off
  • Compulsive counting

Not all rituals or habits are compulsions. Everyone double checks things sometimes. But a person with OCD generally:

  • Can’t control his or her thoughts or behaviors, even when those thoughts or behaviors are recognized as excessive
  • Spends at least 1 hour a day on these thoughts or behaviors
  • Doesn’t get pleasure when performing the behaviors or rituals, but may feel brief relief from the anxiety the thoughts cause
  • Experiences significant problems in their daily life due to these thoughts or behaviors

Some individuals with OCD also have a tic disorder. Motor tics are sudden, brief, repetitive movements, such as eye blinking and other eye movements, facial grimacing, shoulder shrugging, and head or shoulder jerking. Common vocal tics include repetitive throat-clearing, sniffing, or grunting sounds.

Symptoms may come and go, ease over time, or worsen. People with OCD may try to help themselves by avoiding situations that trigger their obsessions, or they may use alcohol or drugs to calm themselves. Although most adults with OCD recognize that what they are doing doesn’t make sense, some adults and most children may not realize that their behavior is out of the ordinary. Parents or teachers typically recognize OCD symptoms in children.

If you think you have OCD, talk to your doctor about your symptoms. If left untreated, OCD can interfere in all aspects of life.

Risk Factors

OCD is a common disorder that affects adults, adolescents, and children all over the world. Most people are diagnosed by about age 19, typically with an earlier age of onset in boys than in girls, but onset after age 35 does happen.

The causes of OCD are unknown, but risk factors include:

Twin and family studies have shown that people with first-degree relatives (such as a parent, sibling, or child) who have OCD are at a higher risk for developing OCD themselves. The risk is higher if the first-degree relative developed OCD as a child or teen. Ongoing research continues to explore the connection between genetics and OCD and may help improve OCD diagnosis and treatment.

Brain Structure and Functioning

Imaging studies have shown differences in the frontal cortex and subcortical structures of the brain in patients with OCD. There appears to be a connection between the OCD symptoms and abnormalities in certain areas of the brain, but that connection is not clear. Research is still underway. Understanding the causes will help determine specific, personalized treatments to treat OCD.

People who have experienced abuse (physical or sexual) in childhood or other trauma are at an increased risk for developing OCD.

In some cases, children may develop OCD or OCD symptoms following a streptococcal infection—this is called Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal Infections (PANDAS).

Treatments and Therapies

OCD is typically treated with medication, psychotherapy or a combination of the two. Although most patients with OCD respond to Homeopathic treatment with rare exceptions.

Sometimes people with OCD also have other mental disorders, such as anxiety, depression, and body dysmorphic disorder, a disorder in which someone mistakenly believes that a part of their body is abnormal. It is important to consider these other disorders when making decisions about treatment.
